Description

The Dresdner Zwinger is one of Germany's most important baroque buildings 🌿. The expansive gardens and fountains invite you to stroll and marvel.

Particularly impressive are the numerous sculptures by Balthasar Permoser, including Apollo and Daphne, the nymph with a shell, Vulcan and Ceres, as well as the Dresden Satyr-Hermaphrodite group and Hercules Saxonicus 🗿.

The architecture uses mythological symbolism to tell the story of the interaction between gods, political power, and nature. Historically, the Zwinger served as a venue for festive events, concerts, and theater – such as the wedding of the son of Augustus the Strong in 1719.

Since 1728, it has stood for knowledge with natural science collections, a library, and permanent exhibitions like the Mathematical-Physical Salon and the Porcelain Collection. The Semper Building houses important art collections such as the Old Masters Picture Gallery.

The Zwinger combines architecture, sculpture, and function to create an experience for all curious minds aged 0 to 20 who want to explore baroque art and cultural history.
