Description

The LWL-Museum Henrichshütte in Hattingen fascinates with its 55-meter high blast furnace – the oldest in the Ruhr region – offering a vivid insight into industrial history.

Here you can experience how metal objects like nails and keys are made in the museum's foundry yard. Every Wednesday from April to October, exciting live casting demonstrations take place, clearly showing the production process of iron and steel.

The museum explains how steel is made from iron – as an alloy that is more stable and rust-resistant. Industry history also blends with nature here: the grounds are home to a variety of plants and animals, especially different bird species that can be discovered during guided tours.

There are attractive offerings for families: the blue-marked children’s program delights with hands-on activities. On Wednesdays, children’s film screenings such as "Finding Nemo" are held, and in the holiday program, children aged 8 to 12 can get creative in the sound workshop "Noise and Rhythm".

  • Exciting guided tours, e.g. the Blast Furnace Safari to discover colorful leaves and ripe fruits around the site.

  • Changing special exhibitions in the Blowing House ensure new experiences all the time.

  • Family-friendly atmosphere with much to discover in industry, nature, and culture.
