Description

The Museum Historischer Kalkofen on the Alte Kalkwerk-Areal takes you into the world of industrial and local history focused on limestone mining and processing. The 200-year-old historic lime kilns are preserved and brought to life by a dedicated workgroup.

A highlight is the fire brigade museum, showcasing the history and vehicles of fire departments from the DDR era as well as the region since 1878. Here you can admire ancient hand-operated fire extinguishing pumps and learn how firefighting technology used to work.

A special experience is offered by rides on the historic narrow-gauge railway, which has been used since the 1930s to transport burnt lime within the plant. 🛤️

The museum invites you to explore and participate – so you learn in a playful and lively way how limestone was extracted and processed. A great place for everyone interested in industrial culture and the history of technology!
