Description

The Walchensee Museum is dedicated to the art, culture, and history of the Walchensee region and surrounding areas, featuring over 200 graphic works by Lovis Corinth, an important early 20th-century artist who lived here and created significant paintings of the lake.

For the first time, the museum is presenting a permanent exhibition of the early expressionist works by Charlotte von Maltzahn (1881–1975), whose previously unknown complete body of work is displayed here.

Extensive local history collections document 250 years of the Kochelsee, Walchensee, and Jachenau regions, offering fascinating insights into places like Urfeld, Herzogstand, and the Walchensee power plant.

The museum was founded in 2008 in the renovated former "Hotel Post" in Urfeld by the Friedhelm Oriwol Foundation, which seeks to preserve and bring to life the region’s cultural heritage.
