## Short Description

Prince Franz built this house as a private retreat for Princess Luise. As early as 1804, a gallery was added to display Luise's art collection.

## Description

Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau was truly a child of his time and a great supporter of the Enlightenment. It is no surprise that the Wörlitz Park was open to the public, and even the castle could be visited on request – after all, the people were meant to be educated. His wife, Princess Luise, found this bustle too much, so Prince Franz had a private retreat built for her. The house, built in the neo-Gothic style and now called Haus der Fürstin, was originally painted gray, which is why Luise referred to her home as “my gray monastery.” Today it shines in old rose and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Garden Kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz.

As early as 1804, a neo-Gothic gallery was added that already displayed Luise’s art collection. At the same time, the over 30-meter-long corridor served Luise as a covered walkway.
