Traditionsbahnbetriebswerk Staßfurt: Technik für Groß und Klein

Description
## Short Description
Coal, diesel, electricity: At the former railway depot, you can dive deep into the history of railways in central Germany and even join special trips.
## Description
Whether it’s powerful steam locomotives like the Borsig 01 005 from 1926, the sleek diesel locomotive 118 586-7, or a steam-powered snow blower – the historic roundhouse in Staßfurt showcases these classic steel horses at their finest. Of course, the classic Mitropa dining car from the 1970s is also part of the collection. Visitors can even take a ride in it. It’s part of the “Salzland-Express,” which is used for special trips pulled by an old diesel locomotive.
The Bahnbetriebswerk Staßfurt has a history spanning more than 160 years. The current site of the former Magdeburg-Cöthen (Köthen)-Halle-Leipziger Railway Company was built around 1900. The roundhouse was constructed in 1902. The first museum trains arrived in the 1980s, and since 1994 the facility has been operated entirely by the Railway Friends Association. In addition to special trips, the association organizes a large locomotive festival and various themed days. Riding along in the cab is a thrilling experience for both kids and adults.
