Paltrockwindmühle Parey: Technisches Meisterwerk

Description
## Summary
At the edge of Parey, a windmill sail once again turns in the breeze. It belongs to the Paltrockwindmühle Parey: Technisches Meisterwerk at Kühns Loch, a former side arm of the Elbe River.
## Description
Windmills like the one in Parey once shaped the landscape of the Jerichower Land region. Today only a few remain. The structure at Kühns Loch originally came from Frenz near Köthen and was reassembled here in 1992 – replacing a mill that was destroyed by lightning in 1983. Before that, there was a similar mill here, converted in 1951 from an earlier post mill.
The special feature of this mill: the mill body rests on a roller bearing that automatically turns it into the wind using a wind rose mounted on the roof. The heavy structure sits on a circular foundation that moves with the changing wind direction. Inside, drive shafts, grinding mechanisms, and meal mills operate, supported by an electrically powered roller mill. In an outbuilding, a gas engine is preserved that once served as an emergency drive during calm wind conditions. Visitors can watch the milling process on special occasions.
## Parking Information
You can park for free along Bittkauer Weg near the mill.
## Directions
Take the A2 motorway, exit at Burg-Ost, then follow the B246a to the B1 in Burg and continue on that to the L54 in Hohenseeden. From there, it is about nine kilometers to the mill.
## Public Transportation
From Genthin bus station, take the bus to the “Parey, Post” stop. From there, it’s about 850 meters via Hauptstraße and Bittkauer Weg to the mill.
