## Brief Description
In the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Tangermünde: Von der Urgeschichte bis heute located in the Tangermünde Town Hall, you can learn all about the eventful history of the town and a particularly tragic fate of a woman.
## Description
The Tangermünde Town Hall is one of the most beautiful buildings of northern German Brick Gothic architecture. On the ground floor and in the cellar rooms, you can explore the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum to learn about the town's development and its unique character shaped by life along the river.
Besides the history of shipping and Tangermünde’s industry, a main focus of the exhibition is the great city fire of 1617. This event is connected to a special woman's fate: Grete Minde became a victim of intrigue, slander, and biased justice. As an alleged arsonist, she was brutally executed at the stake on March 22, 1619. The court files, which can be viewed in the museum, reveal a particularly cruel story.
A city model shows you what the town looked like around 1640. Temporary exhibitions occasionally complement the permanent collection.
